Background to SDIA

The Southern Driving Instructor Association (SDIA) was formally established on 1st March 2010, following an initial meeting on 13th October 2009. SDIA is affiliated to the DIA.

The nature of Driving Instruction as a profession means that the vast majority of ADI's work in a relatively isolated environment. This makes it difficult to maintain up-to-date knowledge; the recent focus on CPD means that there is an ever-increasing need for improvements in communication that allows the ADI/ PDI to gain the ongoing training they require.

Comments from an SDIA member ... "I really enjoy belonging to the SDIA. I enjoy the support SDIA provide and the committee's dedication to arrange interesting speakers and organising worthwhile courses, so a big thank you."

Aims and objectives

In brief, the aims of SDIA are to promote road safety within Hampshire and improve communication between local instructors, the DSA and other relevant agencies and associations. The objectives are to improve communication between the different parties and assist in the provision of CPD. Full details of the Constitution are available via this link.

Areas Covered

While SDIA focuses on the areas covered by the Portsmouth and Lee-on-the-Solent Test Centres, membership and events are open to anyone with an interest in the aims and objectives of SDIA from any area.
